OOSTBURG — On Friday, Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald appointed Senator Devin LeMahieu (R-Oostburg) to the Joint Committee on Finance for the 2019-’20 legislative session.
This is the legislative committee primarily responsible for reviewing the state’s two year budget. In response, Senator LeMahieu released the following statement:
“I am excited to be appointed as a member of the Joint Committee on Finance.
Wisconsin is on the right track. We have experienced nine consecutive months of record low unemployment. The economy is thriving, wages are rising and more people are working this year than ever before.
Over the last four years, the Legislature simplified the tax code and reduced property and income taxes, all while making large investments in education and local roads.
This was achieved in a fiscally responsible manner. New borrowing was reduced to a 20-year low, and budget surpluses boosted the rainy-day fund to a record high.
I’m looking forward to digging into the budget next session to ensure that taxpayer money is spent wisely. It is vitally important that we build upon our recent successes to keep Wisconsin moving forward.
My sincere thanks to Senator Scott Fitzgerald for this appointment.”
