SHEBOYGAN — Miesfeld’s Lakeshore Weekend has been cancelled for this year.
According to Donna Cvetan, the organizers of the annual summer festival have decided to cancel this year’s event. Lakeshore Weekend for Kids was held at Kiwanis Park for two years before being held on the grounds of the South Pier District near Blue Harbor Resort. However, the green space where the event has been held recently has been sold to a developer.
Lakeshore Weekend was slated for the end of this July at Deland Park but according to the organizers, that location was not ideal due to the popular dragon boat races held on the Sheboygan River. The City of Sheboygan had hoped the summer festival would find a new home at Deland Park.
Since the inception of the festival, the event has raised over $1 million for the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. More recently, Miesfeld’s became the title sponsor of the festival and a fireworks show was added.
Lakeshore Weekend was one of Sheboygan’s major summer festivals.
Also this year, the Sheboygan Jaycees has decided this year’s Brat Days festival will be a two-day affair instead of three. In years past, Brat Days would kick-off on a Thursday and go until Saturday night. According to the Jaycees, they decided cut a day this year as they were recouping some losses from 2017.
