KOHLER — The Boston Store at the Deer Trace Shopping Center in Kohler will close.
The 54,820-square-foot store is expected to close according to Bon-Ton Stores Inc., the parent company of Boston Store. All of the stores, including Younkers, Carson’s, Bergner’s and Elder-Beerman, will close over the next 10-12 weeks according to the company’s CEO.
The Boston Store once had two stores in Sheboygan County. In 2001, Elder-Beerman had opened at Deer Trace and later became a Boston Store. In Downtown Sheboygan, the former Younkers became a Boston Store but closed in 2014. Before Tuesday’s announcement, Deer Trace was 100% leased with a total of 25 retail spaces in the shopping center.
Seeking Alpha, an investment analyst website, reported Bon-Ton CEO William Tracy sent a letter to employees late Tuesday that said the company will begin an orderly wind-down of operations following the liquidation process. In February, Bon-Ton had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. While under bankruptcy protection, Bon-Ton explored strategic alternatives, including a sale of the company or certain assets as a part of the reorganization plan, according to a news release.
