SHEBOYGAN — The Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra will host a concert for children Sunday.
“Teddy Bears and Tunes is a concert primarily for pre-school age to third graders, but in truth is for all ages,” stated Kevin McMahon, Music Director & Conductor of the Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra. The program focuses on music related to Valentine’s Day along with music that tells stories. The program is a shorter concert, about 30 minutes of music with five to ten minutes of talking.
The concert is Sunday, February 11th at 3 PM at the Stefanie H. Weill Center for the Performing Arts. Ticket prices are $10 for adults, $5 for children age three and older.
There will be images projected during the concert.
McMahon emphasized, “Anyone who appreciates the Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra will enjoy this program. The music to be shared has not yet been performed during my eight-year tenure with the orchestra, with one exception, of a piece of music performed during a pair of children’s concerts for fourth graders.”
Steve Stauber, Board Member, added, the SSO is pleased to be providing 3- 10 year old children with this great opportunity to enjoy a concert geared especially for them. While the children will not necessarily recognize the title of the pieces being played, we are confident they will recognize the sounds. This concert is an excellent way to introduce them, as well as their “Teddy Bears” and those who accompany them, to the beauty of the music played by the Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra.
As SSO approaches its 100th anniversary we are excited to present this program to our future audiences.”
The short concert features a varied and interesting repertoire. McMahon explained, “Using the SSO’s music library, we have chosen some popular, well-known, and well-loved traditional orchestral works by Smetana, Prokofiev, Kreisler, Mendelssohn, Vivaldi, Grieg, and Rossini as well as a pops arrangement by Leroy Anderson. This program is another wonderful aspect of the educational offerings of the Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra family.”
