heboygan Area School District Superintendent Dr. Joe Sheehan was once arrested for OWI.
In December 2001, Sheehan was pulled over by the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Department in which Sheehan was cited for OWI. According to the Sheriff’s Department, Sheehan’s blood-alcohol level was 0.20, twice the legal limit.
He later pleaded no contest to the first offense OWI charge. A judge gave the then 44-year-old a $692 fine, revoked his driver’s license for seven months and ordered Sheehan undergo an alcohol assessment.
“It’s a very, very, silly thing to do,” said Sheehan in February 2002. “It’s a mistake I made and this is not the role model I want to be.”
Sheehan was named the co-superintendent in June 1999 along with Jeanne Bitkers. It was not until July 2005 that Sheehan became the sole superintendent of the school district. He will retire at the end of June 2018.
