SHEBOYGAN — The race for the District 2 aldermanic is between John Belanger and Todd Wolf after Mike Damrow has decided to “not actively” campaign.
Damrow had sent a text message to Belanger and Wolf saying in part, “I have decided to not actively run the rest of the ‘race.’ They can’t take me off the ballot, so I will be on the ballot,” Damrow ended the text saying, “Good Luck!”
When reached by phone, Damrow initially refused to answer questions regarding the status of his candidacy Tuesday evening. When asked to clarify via e-mail, Damrow responded he had not dropped out of the race. “I am still on the ballot,” Damrow said. “Please do you [sic] research, and not listen to hearsay.”
When a reporter pointed out he had sent a text message to the other two candidates in the race, Damrow responded, “I will be turning this email over to our city attorney.”
A candidate forum co-sponsored by the League of Women’s Voters and American Association of University Women had been scheduled for this week with Damrow, Belanger and Wolf but was cancelled after Damrow had essentially exited the race.
