Sheboygan County Food Bank to host Holiday Lights Hunger Run/Walk

SHEBOYGAN — The first family-friendly Holiday Lights Hunger 5K Run or 1-Mile Walk through the Making Spirits Bright holiday lights display will take place on November 18th.

Wednesday, November 8th is the last day to register to be guaranteed an event t-shirt.

This is a chance to put on your running or walking shoes and help community members less fortunate. You may not be walking in their shoes, but you surely will be helping them get back on their feet.

Hunger in our community exists and may worsen with government cut backs to assistance programs. Increases in food prices are also problematic. Hunger and malnutrition create problems for families and their health, especially for those trying to make ends meet. Assisting with food needs is very helpful to our neighbors. Each year Americans dispose of billions of pounds of food that ends up in landfills, while millions go hungry.

As of November 2nd, nearly 400 participants registered to take a lap or 3, around the traffic-free perimeter of Evergreen Park.

The 5k, starting at 4:30 PM, will be timed, results tabulated and an awards ceremony will take place at 3 Sheeps Brewing’s tap room on North Avenue, following the race.

A shuttle service from 3 Sheeps to Quarry View Park and back will be provided to allow additional parking. The course will offer a “sneak peek” of Making Spirits Bright. Children 12 and under register for free. All money raised by this event will go to Sheboygan County Food Bank.
