SHEBOYGAN – UW President Ray Cross announced the proposed restructuring of the UW system Wednesday morning.

Under the plan, UW-Sheboygan and UW-Manitowoc would become a branch of the UW-Green Bay and so would UW-Marinette. If the plan is approved by the UW Board of Regents, the merger would go into effect in July of 2018.

According to officials at UW-Sheboygan, the local two-year college expects to have an enrollment of around 400 compared this fall to the 731 students the campus had in the fall of 2013.

Elsewhere in the state, UW-Fond du Lac and UW-Fox Valley in Appleton would merge with UW-Oshkosh while UW-Washington County in West Bend and UW-Waukesha would become a branch of the UW-Milwaukee.

According to the Milwaukee Business Journal, no UW Colleges campuses are anticipated to shut down as a result of the proposed campus structure.
