RANDOM LAKE — Recently, Random Lake High School Teacher, Natalie Salkowski, won the Lake Michigan Trail Half Marathon.
Salkowski came in first place with a time 1:42:21, beating the competition by almost four minutes. She applies her passion for running as the Random Lake High School Track Coach when she’s not teaching Biology, Biotech, or Environmental Science.
After running in college as a stress reliever, Salkowski began running short races and building up towards full marathons. To date, Salkowski has ran six full marathons (the Boston Marathon twice), 12 half marathons and numerous other races, from 5Ks to a 50 mile race last year.
“Running these races has helped me be able to be a better coach as well as have a better grasp of the biological needs of a body during exercise,” explains Salkowski. “(Running) helps me to answer a lot of questions that come up in biology class. It has also taught me hard work, perseverance, and patience that I can pass onto students.”
