SHEBOYGAN — Community Health Centers across the nation, including Lakeshore Community Health Carer, will celebrate National Health Center Week from August 13 to August 19th.
Community Health Centers provide integrated medical, behavioral health, dental and support services, regardless of a patient’s insurance status or ability to pay, in medically underserved areas. This year’s theme “Celebrating America’s Health Centers: The Key to Healthier Communities” focuses on the positive effect health centers have on the lives of individuals, local health care systems and their communities, as a whole.
As part of the week’s celebrations and events, LCHC is offering walk-in services for children’s immunizations at both locations and will distribute toothbrushes and toothpaste to each student attending the Sheboygan Optimists Club’s Back to School Basics event, which takes place on Saturday, August 19th from 8-11 AM at Longfellow Elementary School, in Sheboygan.
In 2016, nearly 10,000 individuals received direct patient services through 29,230 visits to LCHC. Nationally, Community Health Centers serve 25 million Americans at more than 9,000 delivery sites in all 50 states.
Community Health Centers reach beyond the walls of conventional medicine to address factors that may cause sickness, such as lack of nutrition, mental illness, homelessness and opioid addiction. Because of the long record of success in innovation, managing health care costs, and reducing chronic disease, Community Health Centers have a proud tradition of bipartisan support in Congress.
LCHC employs more than 100 residents as dentists, hygienists, dental assistants, physicians, advanced practitioners, nurses, medical assistants, pharmacists, technicians, support and administrative staff. The organization is governed by a board of directors whose members live and work in the communities LCHC serves, and more than half of whom are consumers of LCHC’s services.
