SHEBOYGAN — Work on the Sheboygan skate park is finally underway, and is expected to be ready next spring.
The City of Sheboygan has awarded the $578,000 project to Grindline Skateparks of Seattle, Washington. The contractor has began work on the new concrete skate park on the north end of Kiwanis Park. The project will take 17 weeks and weather dependent should be completed by the end of the year according to Chad Pelishek, the city’s Director of Planning & Development.
The Community Development Block Grant program is funding the entire project. The city received a $5,000 grant from the Tony Hawk Foundation. The previous skate park at Kiwanis Park was removed due to aging components. The new skate park will be constructed of materials that will last longer and require little to no maintenance.
Grindline Skateparks, Inc. was one of two companies that submitted bids to construct the park. Buteyn-Peterson Construction of Sheboygan submitted a bid of $679,226 which was $101,109 more than Grindline Skateparks’ bid of $578,117.
