SHEBOYGAN — The Sheboygan Common Council approved the annexation of 247 acres of land along South 12th Street in the for a proposed Kohler Co. golf course.
Alderpersons voted 11 to 5 to annex the land into the City of Sheboygan from the Town of Wilson at Monday night’s meeting.
Kohler’s proposed 18-hole, public golf course is located on 247 acres of land along South 12th Street just north of Kohler-Andrae State Park. The land is located within the Town of Wilson but the Kohler Company wanted the land to be annexed into the City of Sheboygan. The move means the Kohler Company would pay taxes to the city, not the township. The move would also allow the company to be serviced by city services such as police, fire, EMS and water works.
“Our 18-hole, public golf course will be a tremendous economic benefit to the region, creating hundreds of jobs and an annual, multi-million dollar positive economic impact,” said Dirk Willis, director of golf for Kohler’s Hospitality and Real Estate Group, in a statement. “It is in the public’s best interest to have the project be located in a financially stable municipality like the City of Sheboygan, which is able to provide on a long-term basis the appropriate level of services to both the project and residents.”
