Elderly driver strikes, injures multiple pedestrians in Manitowoc

MANITOWOC — An elderly driver struck and injured multiple pedestrians Tuesday outside a Manitowoc hospital.

Shortly before 4 PM, police officers and firefighters were sent to a report of a multi-vehicle accident with multiple injured pedestrians in the 2300 block of Western Avenue. The accident occurred outside the main entrance to Holy Family Memorial Hospital in Manitowoc. The driver, a 71 year old Manitowoc man, had lost control of his vehicle, backed into another vehicle, and struck a 97 year old Valders woman, a 64 year old St. Nazianz woman and a 82 year old Manitowoc man according to Lt. Jeremy Kronforst.

The driver then tried to pull forward, lost control of the vehicle, striking another vehicle in the employee parking lot to the north of Meadow Lane. The 97 year old Valders woman suffered serious injuries and her medical status is unknown at this time according to Kronforst. The St. Nazianz woman and the Manitowoc man were treated for minor injuries. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the accident.

The Wisconsin State Patrol assisted with reconstruction of the accident.
